ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - An Orangeburg County man wanted on charges of kidnapping and assaulting a woman earlier this month has been taken into custody.

Robert Gable, 38, was arrested on Friday, said Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.

"The investigators assigned to this worked many hours in locating this individual after he sent a woman to the hospital with severe injuries," the sheriff said. "The pursuit of this individual finally ended when investigators found him hiding under a bed."

Bond was set at $60,000 during a hearing on Friday after Gable was charged with kidnapping, domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, and possession of a stolen vehicle, deputies said.

Warrants were obtained after a prolonged incident at Gable's Capital Way residence where a woman said she was beaten and held against her will.

The victim said that on Nov. 8, she was beaten by a stick her boyfriend wielded after she unintentionally set off a vehicle horn while he was hunting.

The man continued the assault with a metal rod for a 45-minute period after the two arrived at a Capital Way residence, she said. He then locked her in a bedroom by screwing the door shut.

When the man later entered the room and fell asleep, the woman slipped out of the house where she made her way to a home a mile away to call for help.

The woman was treated for injuries she received during the two beatings, reports say.

Ravenell said Gable was taken into custody on Tuesday after he was found hiding under a bed inside a Neeses residence.
