Locals support Small Business Saturday at Summerville coffee shop

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Small Business Saturday is dedicated to supporting small businesses across the nation.

Some stores in the Charleston are offering discounts for their customers. A locally-owned coffee shop in Summerville is part of the "shop small" movement. 

Josh Morgan says he comes to Coastal Coffee Roasters, Inc. a couple of times a week.

"I love it, it's got a great feel, great vibe," Morgan said.

It was a full house at Coastal Coffee Roasters, Inc. They had special deals for customers shopping local. Co-owner Brad Mallett says he made the leap into the small business world with his wife.

"After 20 years of working for the corporate structure I am so grateful that I pulled the plug and decided to start this venture on our own," Mallett said. 

A consumer is the key for a thriving local business. When you shop local, more of that money comes back to your community. 

John Raila says he support local businesses.

"We like small businesses we like the community feel," Raila said. "Try not to support big box stores as little as I can, but sometimes you get stuck doing it."

Coastal Coffee Roasters, Inc. has a strong local focus, most of their food comes from local farms. 

The business roasts coffee from around the world and ships to various places in the country. They also display locally made products for sale. 

"We just feed off the local community in a way of providing a place for them to grow as well," Mallett said.

Raila is neighbors with the owners.

"Neighborly love, gotta come out here and help him out," Raila said. "I appreciate what he's doing here for the community."

Local businesses encourage you to come out not just today, but everyday.

Small Business Saturday started in 2010. It was created by American Express. While it's highlighted as a special day the "shop small" movement is a year-round campaign.
