A passenger of the Carnival Ecstasy is recovering after suffering a head injury during the ship's return to its home port of Charleston.

A 71-year-old woman slipped and suffered a head injury while on board the ship Friday afternoon, according to the Coast Guard.  As the ship was about 75 miles off the Florida coast at the time, the Coast Guard deployed a helicopter to medically evacuate the woman.  The patient and an onboard nurse were hoisted on to the helicopter and were flown to a Florida hospital.

The ship left Charleston six days prior and was returning to port at the time of the incident.
