SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Nexton and Volvo announced their future plans to "enhance" the Charleston Region on Tuesday.

This includes new plans for Nexton's residential and commercial developments.

4,000 acres within Nexton was recently acquired by Newland Communities – the largest "master plan" community in the country.

400 acres will be dedicated to commercial property.

Nexton is in it's third year of building and are in the process of finishing their first neighborhood, Brighton Park Village.

Officials say their next neighborhood will open early 2018.

Volvo officials say the company is on track with their operations project.

They expect to begin producing the midsize S60 sedan by the end of 2018. It's first main production will be for those in the United States and then extend to the world.

The process equipment for the production plant is being installed now and hiring is ongoing.

They have about 160 employees for production right now, that will increase to 450 by the end of this year and then by next year they should have roughly 1,500 employees at their new plant in Summerville.

Those who gathered for the update are looking forward to the future of working, playing and living in the Summerville area.
