GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC) - Current owners of the Georgetown steel mill say they are against the rezoning of the old mill.

The mill closed down back in 2015 and has been sold to a new owner who says they have plans to reopen the mill as a steel mill.

But according to a statement from the mill's current owners ArcelorMittal, the city only plans to operate the building as a steel mill for the next five years, then possibly rezone the area as recreational buildings and shops.

This means that the more than 300 hundred jobs the mill would bring back to the area could be lost once again.

Now, the owners are asking the Georgetown city planning commission recommend against the rezoning.
