BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County deputies say having a fire extinguisher aboard a boat saved the day on Lake Moultrie.

The sheriff's office's Marine Patrol Units responded around noon to a report of a boater in distress on the lake, according to a post on their Facebook page.

Deputies say there was a small fire in the boat's engine compartment that was quickly extinguished by the boat's operator.

Everyone is safe, the updated post states. The boat was being towed back to Thornley Landing.

Firefighters also responded to the area, deputies said.
