NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston's new police hit the streets Monday to march by himself to send a message.

Chief Reggie Burgess, who replaced Eddie Driggers as police chief in January,  said the idea stems from a meeting he had with the Christian and Missionary Alliance weeks prior.

In the meeting, one of the ministers referenced a record number of homicides city of North Charleston in 2017.

"We've got to do it together. It's the only way to make our community safe" Burgess said.
