Coroner identifies man killed in North Charleston shooting
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide in James Island.

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified a 27-year-old man who died in a shooting over the weekend.

Authorities say Kayron Mitchell of North Charleston died from multiple gunshots.

On Sunday morning, police responded to the 2600 block of Houston Street at 12:52 a.m. to investigate a report of a shooting victim lying in a front yard.

Officers found the man lying on his back and said he was unresponsive and appeared to have gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen, according to an incident report.

EMS crews pronounced him dead at the scene.

Two women pulled up to the scene and spotted the victim in the yard and called 911, the report states.

Police said a neighbor also called 911 at approximately 9:43 p.m. to report hearing shots fired.

Other neighbors reported hearing three or four shots sometime around 9:30 p.m. but heard nothing after that.

The investigation is ongoing.
