SULLIVAN'S ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a pilot landed his plane on the beach at Sullivan's Island and took off after he saw police coming.
It happened near Station 28 around 8:15 a.m. on Saturday.
According to town officials, beachgoers called emergency dispatch officials and reported that after the plane landed the pilot got out and took pictures.
A witness reported she initially thought the plane might have had some engine trouble, but when it touched down there did not appear to be anything wrong with it.
When police officers got to the scene the plane took off.
A witness said a law enforcement vehicle looked like it was attempting to stop the craft from leaving the beach.
Video taken by a viewer shows a police vehicle responding to the scene as the aircraft lifts off.
The viewer reported that at least three law enforcement vehicles and an emergency responder with jet skis responded to the scene.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Police and the FAA are investigating.
