MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Drivers are noticing the impact of the traffic caused by the closure of the westbound lanes of Wando River Bridge after SCDOT found a snapped cable.

For one floral shop in Mount Pleasant, "By the Bunch Florists," it's hurting their business, according to employee Crystal Jewell.

"As a delivery driver I had an extra three and a half hours of work last night delivering flowers, traffic was insane like if there were a Hurricane coming. It's the only way I could describe it," Jewell said.

Since one side of the bridge closed Monday, it's had a ripple effect across the Lowcountry.

"We couldn't really get our flowers this morning because we couldn't get over the bridge in time so we've had to cancel a bunch of orders," Jewell said."It's hurting the business that way because we're not able to deliver anywhere but Mount Pleasant and Isle of Palms."

Mount Pleasant resident Gretchen Lewis experienced the congestion Tuesday morning.

"Well I was late for the hair dresser...I was coming from Mount Pleasant into North Charleston and the Ravenel Bridge was bumper to bumper. It was very congested," Lewis said.

On Monday, SCDOT officials said the bridge would be closed for at least 48 hours.

"I'm a afraid that with the rain we're going to get that it's going to be even longer," Jewell said.

Despite it all, Lewis is thinking positive.

"This is the loveliest place on earth," Lewis said.
