Gamecocks advance in winners bracket, top Pirates 4-2

(WCSC) - South Carolina will play for a berth in the Super Regionals after topping East Carolina 4-2 Saturday night in Greenville, North Carolina.
Cody Morris went 7.1 innings for the Gamecocks. The right-hander surrendered five hits and two runs to the Pirates who had scored 16 the day before against UNC Wilmington.
USC never trailed as they put up three runs in the first inning. Jonah Bride smacked a two-run double as the Gamecocks surged ahead early.
South Carolina catcher Hunter Taylor threw out several Pirate runners as the Gamecocks knocked off the top seed in the regional.
USC will now face the winner of Sunday's elimination game between the Pirates and UNC Wilmington. The Seahawks topped Ohio State 4-3 in 13 innings on a walk-off single by Wando High School product Kep Brown.
