MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Jonathan Brightwell birdied the first playoff hole to top Garrett Wood and win the 2018 Rice Planters Amateur title Sunday afternoon at Snee Farm Country Club in Mt. Pleasant.

The two were tied at 13-under par after 72 holes. They replayed 18 where Brightwell got his revenge: He had just made bogey on the hole after pulling his tee shot left into the trees. He failed to get up and down and bogeyed to force a playoff.

Wood shined for most of the day while firing a four-under-par round of 68. The Xavier University product pulled his tee shot left on the playoff hole but managed to get his approach on the green. His birdie attempt came up short which left the door open for Brightwell.

The UNC Greensboro spartan was solid with the putter all day as he routinely made crucial par saves. His one-under-par round of 71 was good enough to keep him at the top before sealing the victory in the playoff.
