HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Deputies say a 75-year-old Beaufort County man who vanished Thursday afternoon has been found.
A resident on Horseman Lane in Hilton Head Plantation, near where the man had last been seen walking with a fishing pole, heard moans coming from a thick wooded area.
Hilton Head Plantation Security and Sheriff's Office deputies were notified and responded to the area, pushed their way through the thick brush, and found the victim.
Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue paramedics responded and took him to the Hilton Head Regional Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.
He had last been seen at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, and his family reported that he is known to fish near his home on a daily basis but always returned no later than 5:30 p.m.
Deputies searched on the ground, calling off their ground search Friday night but continuing a search from the air on Saturday morning.
It is not clear how he wound up in the woods.
The man's family and friends appreciate the outpouring of concern from the community throughout this ordeal, deputies said.
