CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Happy Birthday, America. You are 242 years old. What would our founding fathers say about how we're doing in 2018? Some say they wouldn't be happy, but I'm not so sure.
In 1776, Americans stood up to claim the rights and freedoms they yearned for. In those days, there were political differences, tension and fierce debate. Not a lot has changed.
While many of us will enjoy a day off during the middle of the week, and we're thinking about parades, fireworks, barbeque and ballgames, let's also remember why we can enjoy that.
We as American should exercise our freedoms if we are to keep them: Free speech, religion, a free press, the right to vote, many more
If we exercise our rights in a civil way, we are saluting and honoring the framers of our Constitution and the Americans who lost their lives fighting for those freedoms.
Thanks to those Americans who secured our freedom, we still have those freedoms today.
