One dead after SUV falls down 15-foot embankment in Colleton Co.
COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - One person died Sunday morning when an SUV fell down an embankment on I-95 and rolled over into the tree line, according to Colleton Co. fire chief Barry McRoy.
The Land Rover was found near the exit 42 entrance ramp lying on its side. The woman who passed away was ejected from the vehicle, which rolled partially on top of her, McRoy said.
The daughter of the person killed told emergency officials that their SUV had brake issues.
She told medics that her father tried to exit I-95, but couldn't stop. He crossed U.S. Hwy 21, entered the southbound on-ramp to I-95, and went off the edge of the road when it became airborne and then rolled down the embankment, McRoy said.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
