BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - As thousands of students return to classes this August, 705 elementary students in the Hanahan area will attend school in an entirely new building.

Bowen's Corner Elementary School will open for the 2018-2019 school year.

It will serve children in preschool through grade five.

Principal Aimee Fulmer said safety at the Berkeley County School District school is top-notch.

"All of our doors are locked at all times," she said. "We have one door that unlocks to the office area that even still can't get into the office area without being buzzed in, so they can get into one door but they cannot get any farther, including the office."

There are also up to 300 cameras inside and outside of the school to maintain security.
