Citadel cadet charged after allegedly pointing gun at woman's face

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Citadel cadet was arrested Monday night after North Charleston police say he pointed a gun at woman's face.
James Durant, 22, was taken into custody just before 11:30 p.m. on the campus of Charleston Southern University.
According to the arrest warrants, the Durant and the victim agreed to meet at CSU so she could return items to Durant.
Police say they were in the woman's car and that she wanted to talk about their relationship before returning the items.
That's when police say Durant pulled out a pistol, pointed it at her face. According to the court papers, Durant also wrapped his left arm around her neck, causing her airway to close for about 30 seconds.
Police say a witness called 911. Officers found the gun under the driver's seat of Durant's car.
He was charged with pointing a firearm at another person, unlawful carrying of a firearm and assault second degree.
A judge set his bond at $20,000 Tuesday morning. We have reached out to the Citadel to find out Durant's status at the school.
CSU spokeswoman Jenna Johnson issued the following statement:
CSU is aware of an incident that happened in the parking lot by the Whitfield football stadium. While on a run, a group of CSU students heard a car horn blowing and went to investigate. They intervened to assist the female individual. The male subject left the scene. The two individuals involved in the incident are not associated with CSU.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
