CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities say 20 students are fine after their bus caught on fire on Savannah Highway Wednesday night.

The fire was in the area of the 3900 block of Savannah Highway in Red Top.

CCSO officials say the incident was a mechanical fire and 20 kids were on the bus, but got off before the fire began.

Motorists reported the fire around 6:17 p.m.

Crews had shut down lanes heading towards Charleston in order to clear the scene.

Charleston County School District officials say the students on the bus were wrestlers from Baptist Hill en route to West Ashley for a match.
