Coroner identifies victims of deadly Maybank Highway crash
WADMALAW ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified the three people who died early Monday morning in a crash on Maybank Highway.
Jeffrey Nesbitt, 29, of Hollywood; Steven Mitchell, 49, of Summerville; and Nathan Nesbitt, 34, of Hollywood died in the crash, according to Charleston County Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin. All three were pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
Martin said Jeffrey Nesbitt was driving a Cadillac involved in a two-vehicle crash and the other two victims were passengers.
Investigators say there was a collision involving a Cadillac and a Chrysler, and the collision caused the Cadillac to hit a tree and the Chrysler to roll over. But deputies were still trying to find anyone who was in the Chrysler when the crash happened.
Deputies responded to the scene of the two-car collision in the 5000 block of the road around 12:39 a.m., Charleston County Sheriff’s Capt. Roger Antonio said. Investigators say no one was in the Chrysler when deputies arrived at the scene.
Authorities searched for others who may have been in either vehicle, but didn’t find anyone else.
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is working to identify the driver of the Chrysler.
The road was blocked to traffic for more than five hours as crews worked the scene. The St. Johns Fire department also responded.
