Tractor-trailer crashes into interstate’s overhead sign

HENRICO, Va. (WWBT/Gray News) - A bizarre tractor-trailer crash closed westbound lanes of I-64 on Thursday morning near the Henrico County/New Kent line.

According to Virginia State Police, the bed of the tractor-trailer hit the overhead sign near mile marker 200 near the I-295 interchange at 9:36 a.m.

The bed, which was empty when the crash happened, was taken down from the sign around 11 a.m., but the interstate remained closed.

There’s currently no information on where the truck was traveling from at the time. Virginia State Police tells us the tractor-trailer stopped at a weigh station along I-64 before the crash.

There’s also no information if any other factors played a role in the crash.

The Virginia Department of Transportation has not yet said when the road will reopen.
