RAVENEL, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County coroner has identified the Ravenel man who died after being struck by an Amtrak train.

James Fraley, 34, died at approximately 9:13 p.m. on June 6 at the scene of the crash, Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said.

Fraley died from blunt force trauma, O’Neal said.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Highway 162 that evening to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a train.

The train, Amtrak Palmetto 89, was traveling to Savannah at the time of the crash.

No other injuries have been reported, and Amtrak spokesperson Marc Magliari said the train was not damaged.

A passenger said that after the train crossed the Stono River bridge, “it was suddenly braking very hard. It took a long time to stop. They announced that the conductor had to get out and inspect the train. Much later, they said it was a pedestrian fatality.”
