Officers witnessed a crash at 10:28 p.m. on Sunday, involving a silver Toyota Avalon and a red Fiat at the intersection of Greenridge Road and Rivers Avenue.

When officers went to check on the victims, they found one in the Toyota Avalon who was unresponsive and trapped inside. They noticed the red Fiat’s engine was on fire, and officers pulled Serrano out of the driver’s door, and another person from the front passenger door to a safe distance away from the burning vehicle. Another victim had to be mechanically removed from the vehicle.

Officers noticed that Serrano and the Fiat smelled strongly of alcohol. Serrano appeared to have red, glassy eyes, and they found an open bottle of beer inside the car.

South Carolina Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found that the Fiat’s speedometer was stuck at 100mph. The trooper told officers that a speedometer will often get stuck at the last known speed traveled before the impact of a crash.

Law enforcement spoke to Serrano in the back of the ambulance before being taken to a hospital and determined that he was grossly intoxicated.

All involved were taken to a hospital for treatment.
