Harbor Logistics breaks ground on soybean export facility in Goose Creek
New transload facility will boost South Carolina’s export capabilities and support local farmers
GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCSC) — Harbor Logistics officially broke ground on Thursday on a new facility that will significantly boost South Carolina’s soybean export capabilities and support local farmers.
The company’s new soybean transload facility in Goose Creek will increase connectivity between South Carolina’s soybean farmers and global markets.
The new facility comes after soybeans accounted for around 390,000 harvested acres statewide last year. It also stems from a grant agreement with the Department of Agriculture’s Growing Agribusiness Fund, where the company received $600,000 for the building.
“I think that the beauty of this particular facility that we’re cutting the ribbon on or breaking the ground on today is you had multiple parties coming together working towards the same goal,” Byron Miller of the South Carolina Ports Authority said.
As part of an agreement, Harbor Logistics will also add seven full-time positions with the Goose Creek facility.
