Moncks Corner officer hospitalized after police vehicle hit

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) — An officer in Moncks Corner was taken to the hospital after being hit by a driver while inside his police vehicle.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 52 near Barony Street.

The Moncks Corner officer was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment and was later released.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol took over the investigation, and the driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

“We thank the South Carolina Highway Patrol for its assistance and professionalism throughout this incident,” the Moncks Corner Police Department wrote in a statement.
