Charleston Co. launches recycling app to increase recycle rates
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Charleston County has recently launched an interactive recycling app.
The Recycle Coach app aims to help residents reduce household waste and ensure you are recycling correctly.
Officials hope this app will empower residents to make smarter disposal decisions and take an active approach to reducing household waste.
As well as increase recycling rates and decrease contamination in the recycling stream.
Christina Moskos is the program manager for Charleston County Environmental Management and says this app was carefully curated.
“We have been talking for quite a while on best practices for educating our residents on how to recycle correctly. And the recycled coach app allows us to not only educate them on how they can recycle, but it also provides tools where they can better engage with us,” Moskos said.
Residents can access Recycle Coach from their phones or computers.
The app will allow residents to stay organized with custom recycling curbside collection and events calendars.
Users will receive reminders and real-time updates on service disruptions.
Users can notify Charleston County’s Environmental through the app if there are any recycling issues.
The app also educates residents on collection requirements for common items like plastic bottles, aluminum cans, tin cans, glass bottles and uncommon items like plastic bags or wrap, cable cords, and scrap metal.
“I think this is going to encompass a lot of different things that not only are going to allow us to better provide information to our residents, but it also lets residents engage with us and ask questions,” Moskos said. “And hopefully, it’ll be a tool where everyone can work together to provide a higher percentage of recycling here in Charleston County.”
Recycle Coach is now available for download in the app store from any mobile device.
